AFFLICTION + DIMEBASH + NAMM 2016 (THE RECAP)
Every year tens of thousands of people from all over the world descend upon Anaheim for the annual winter NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) convention.
Affliction was all over the place, from Dimebash in Hollywood to interviewing rock stars at the Dean Guitars / DDrum and ESP booths at NAMM.
Let’s start from the beginning…
Right after our very successful #AfflictionStudios Grand Opening party last Thursday night, we hit the ground running on Friday at Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood with Dimebash 2016. Dimebash is a all-star charity event in the name of Dimebag Darrell, iconic guitarist from Pantera who was killed in Ohio 11 years ago on stage in what is considered to be one of the most shocking and tragic events in rock history. All proceeds went to the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Foundation, and the event was put together by Dime’s widow Rita Haney, music director Nick Bowcott (Marshall Amps), Monster Energy Drink, and I was proud to host and sing in it!
We helped out by donating over 300 high quality Affliction x Dimebash shirts to Rita to help raise funds and to help make fans look a lot cooler! C’mon!
Dimebag was all about having a good time and making sure everyone around him was having one too! And that’s exactly what happened that night!
Whenever we can, friends, family and peers get together to jam out tunes that Dime would love to play and hear himself. From Pantera to Kiss to Iron Maiden, Dimebash 2016 was an all-star jam session of mega proportions that included badasses like Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society, Phil & Rex from Pantera, Roberto Trujillo from Metallica, Robb, Phil & Jared from Machine Head, Gary Holt from Slayer/Exodus, and members from King’s X, Stone Sour, Kyng, Prong, Fear Factory, Armored Saint, Flotsam & Jetsam and more!
By the way, every musician on stage that night volunteered to be there. Not one of them got paid, and were there because they love Dimebag!
There were so many highlights from Dimebash, but in order to not make this super long, let’s go with my Top Three:
1. Motorhead tribute with sick performance of “Ace Of Spades” featuring Phil Anselmo on vocals holding the mic above his head the whole time just like Lemmy would do, Roberto Trujillo on bass, Dave Lombardo (Dead Cross, ex-Slayer) on drums and Dave Grohl rocking the guitar!
2. Headbanging with Dave Grohl to Pantera’s “A New Level” as we watched our friends bring it!
3. Singing THREE Pantera songs (“Revolution Is My Name” with KYNG, plus “Mouth For War” and later in the set “Cowboys From Hell”) on stage in front of my idols! What a trip!?!
The next morning we went to the Anaheim Convention Center to work at NAMM for Dean Guitars / DDrum. All day Saturday and Sunday I did on-camera interviews with endorsed artists throughout Dean’s set up at NAMM for the guitar company’s YouTube page. I hung out with lots of amazing talented players such as Dave Mustaine from Megadeth, Eric Peterson from Testament, drumming legend Carmine Appice, Sevendust guitarist John Connolly, young shredder Jacky Vincent from Cry Venom (formerly of Falling In Reverse), veteran axe man Michael Angelo Batio and more!
All video evidence of these NAMM hangs currently live on Dean Guitar’s YouTube page and I know we posted a bunch of them on our socials as well.
It was a freaking busy weekend, but when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work!
Thanks to all of you that came by to Dimebash or said what’s up at NAMM, we appreciate all of your continued support and look forward to doing more kick ass stuff in the future!
Celebrating 33 years of MEGADETH, only 33 of these one-of-a-kind, hand-laid gold-leaf guitars are being produced worldwide, making it a must-have collector’s item for guitar aficionados and fans of the Mustaine series of guitars.
Crobot was definitely a show you did not want to miss at Rock on the Range 2014! These guys rocked
