Affliction’s Top 5 Metal Front Women of All Time
Over the last few days we’ve been racking our brains to narrow down our favorite metal front women. With so many choices, narrowing down the list to only five was really challenging, so we called in our man Jose Mangin from Sirius XM to help us out.
Being the front for a metal band takes more than just musical talent. When we sat down with Jose to pick our top five, we wanted to take into account stage presence, style and, of course, vocal talent. After a few beers and countless music videos, Jose and the team came up with Affliction’s Official top five metal front women of all time~
5. Maria Brink
Maria Brink formed the band In This Moment from Albany, New York with guitarist Chris Howorth in 2005. Brink rocks the vocals and piano for the band, with albums including “Beautiful Tragedy”, “The Dream”, “A Star-Crossed Wasteland” and “Blood”. Look for Maria Brink in 2014 with The Butcher Babies on their next U.S. tour.
4. Cristina Scabbia
Cristina Scabbia is the lead vocalist for the band Lacuna Coil, and has also been featured on tracks by a few legendary fellow metal bands. Megadeth featured Scabbia in their song “À Tout le Monde (Set Me Free)”, Apocalyptica‘s song “S.O.S. (Anything But Love)” and another version of the Alter Bridge song “Watch Over You“. Did we mention that she also loves Affliction? Just sayin’~
3. Lzzy Hale
Front-woman of Halestorm from Red Lion, Pennsylvania, Lzzy has been with the band since its inception in 1998. Fun fact about Lzzy: after working on her vocal skills at a young age, she progressed to keytar- that’s right, keytar one of the infamous lost instruments of the 80’s. Van Halen would be so proud~
2. Lita Ford
Lita joined up with The Runaways in 1975 as lead guitarist, with Joan Jett on guitar. Two awesome female fronts in one band?- Hell yeah! Check out their hits if you haven’t already, you may be surprised to find that you already know half of their songs without knowing that they are by The Runaways. In 1979, Ford left The Runaways due to differences with the band. Conflicts were resolved with the former band members in 2012 when Ford released her album “Living Like a Runaway”.
1. Joan Jett
Who can forget “Crimson and Clover”, or “I Love Rock n’ Roll”, her hit that held strong on the Billboard Hot 100 list from March 20 to May 1, 1982. Jett is also a huge sports fan and has had her music featured at quite a few national sporting events. “Bad Reputation” was used by our girl Ronda Rousey as her walkout song at the pay-per-view event “UFC 157.”
