A Tribute to John Bonnam at NAMM 2014

A Tribute to John Bonnam at NAMM 2014

Rock stars, drums, guitars, booze and the most kick ass concerts you can imagine.  What is this awesomeness we speak of?  It’s NAMM 2014 in Anaheim California!  This year we teamed up with ESP guitars for some heavy metal, guitars and partying at the Observatory of course!

We kicked off day one of NAMM with the Bonzo Bash at the Observatory in Santa Ana, California.  This was an epic event where the most legendary drummers all came together to celebrate the life of Led Zepplin drummer John Bonnam.  The night kicked off after the first day’s events at the convention center.  As we rolled in to the Observatory the house began to fill up wall to wall with anxious Led Zep. fans.  Thank God we were hanging in the backstage lounge, because the whole venue looked almost claustrophobic.

The night was truly surreal with so many awesome musicians under one roof, all coming together to play music in tribute to one of the most legendary drummers of all time.  Athena Kottak, sister to Tommy Lee from Motley crew rocked the set and marked her territory on the iconic Sabian Gong as the first drummer to incorporate it into their solo that night.

As the night progressed we saw so many awesome drum solos, guest vocalists, iconic bassists, and legendary guitarists.  One thing was for sure, this was a night for drummers.  Frankie Banali from Quiet Riot and Charlie Benante from Anthrax had some bone shaking finishes when they hammered out the finishing fills for their songs with the impromptu band.  Our man Mike Portnoy from The Winery Dogs and Dream Theater also rocked a kick ass few songs with the guys that we caught on our way back in from the Jagermeister shot dispenser.  That’s right.  Jager.

The guys from Jagermeister were nice enough to put together an awesome back stage set up complete with bar, brand swag and shots!  These guys weren’t just here to drink, they had an awesome charity set up for Music Saves Lives.  Music Saves Lives started by educating others on the importance of blood donation and the bone marrow registry.  Find out more about Music Saves Lives~

The night wrapped up numerous legendary drummers hanging out back stage at the Observatory, enjoying Jager shots and swapping stories from NAMM and other tales from life on tour.  NAMM 2014 was still just getting started, with many other awesome shows including a tribute to Randy Rhoads at the Observatory in Orange County.  Rest assured, the Affliction team will be there to rock out and give you the play by play action on Instagram @AfflictionClothing and Twitter @Affliction~

Until next time~ STAY METAL! \m/
